A Teacher’s Last Tears: When the Light of a Classroom Was Snuffed Out in Silence.
🥹Haa…my heart broke when I saw it.💔💔💔💔💔💔
A teacher, full of life just hours before, reduced to a picture of raw agony—hot tears streaming down his face, eyes red with terror, breathing his last breath in helplessness. He wasn’t a soldier on a battlefield. He wasn’t a criminal on the run. He was in a classroom, doing the noblest work in any society: shaping minds.
And yet, he was hunted, captured, imprisoned in fear, and slaughtered like an animal. In a nation that calls itself the Giant of Africa, how did we get here?
This was someone’s father. Someone’s husband. Someone’s brother, friend, colleague, neighbour. A man who kissed his family goodbye in the morning, walked into work, and never came home. His aged parents may still be alive, waiting for a son who will never return. His students lost not just a teacher, but a guardian of their future.
What was his offense? That he taught? That he dared to show up for work in a country where duty has become a death sentence?
I saw him weep. I heard the silence of his plea. And then, his dreams, his voice, his life—cut short in an instant.
They tell us to “fokanbale”—to put our minds at rest. But how do we rest when classrooms are no longer safe? How do we rest when the very people building the nation are being buried before their time?
If this is what “Renewed Hope” looks like, then hope itself is bleeding.
Let this be more than a hashtag. Let this be a line in the sand. All teachers across the South West should consider shutting down schools in solidarity—a sacred pause to honour a fallen hero and to demand that no other teacher dies in silence.
We mourn you, Mr. Michael Oyedokun. We remember you. And we refuse to let your tears be in vain.
It is well ❤️🩹
